Journey Description:

This 18-week journey invites grantmakers and movement leaders to embark on a journey of trust-building and action planning to design the world we deserve. Developed to foster a shared understanding of community-centered emergence practices and network building, the curriculum dives into practical strategies for reshaping philanthropy and cultivating regenerative cultural ecosystems with a community of practice. Through interactive sessions, participants will learn about power building, abolitionist organizing, legal frameworks, and narrative strategies for shifting culture and the world.

This is not a DEI course. This is a world-building cohort learning series. Participants are expected to have a developed racial analysis.

Each week features expert speakers, hands-on workshops, and reflective assignments, allowing participants to create actionable plans to repair harm, design strategies to redistribute resources, and develop culturally regenerative ecosystems. By the journey’s end, participants will be equipped with leadership tools and prepared to foster lasting impact in their organizations and communities.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn and explore applications of the principles of a Just Cultural Transition.

  • Foster trust and collaboration between movement leaders and grantmakers.

  • Expand understanding of the legal boundaries of philanthropic work, the narrative strategies to address barriers, and prototyping skills to advance cultural equity.

  • Develop skills in leadership, intersectional analysis, and strategic philanthropy.

  • Create actionable plans for redistributing resources, repairing harm, and fostering regenerative systems.

  • Who is this for?: BIPOC grantmakers, cultural strategists, and movement leaders seeking to deepen their knowledge of cultural equity and interested in prototyping innovative, justice-centered frameworks residing anywhere in the United States, U.S. Territories, or the many Native sovereign nations within those political boundaries.

  • Who is this not for: This journey is not for those who do not have time to complete journey-work and prereading assignments between weekly sessions. Yes, we know, we all have very busy lives with complex obligations. We also know that successful organizing takes an intentional commitment to show up and do the work.

Journey Policies:

  • Participants must be focused and present for the full session every week. Many of us have families, loved ones, and other commitments that require our attention. While we welcome young ones, family members, and elders for whom you may be a caretaker, their presence should not be a regular distraction for you or your cohort members.

  • No second screens. Yes, we are all busy and have a lot to do. Participants will be asked to commit to not checking email, social media, gaming, or other distracting content during weekly session times.

  • Focused attention is required for this journey. Please do not plan to be driving, cooking a meal, or multitasking during session times.

  • We plan and the world laughs. We understand that unexpected absenteeism may happen. Participants must email facilitators in advance if they will be missing a session, commit to meeting with at least two (2) cohort members to debrief missed session content and be accountable for submitting assignments on time. More than two (2) sequential missed sessions may lead to dismissal from the cohort.

  • As with life, change happens and as facilitators, we reserve the right to adapt the syllabus as needed to meet the cohort's needs while providing participants with advanced notice.

  • Self-care is central to organizing work. We trust and expect each participant to nourish themselves, use the restroom as needed throughout session time, and request any other accommodations they may need.

    Assignments:

  • Weekly assignments must be submitted via the Creative Disruptors portal by Sunday of each week. We anticipate that they will take no more than 3 hours per week.

  • Grading: Assignments and journey-work will not be graded. However, as facilitators, we commit to reviewing all submitted work and providing qualitative feedback.

  • How to Apply: Please complete this short form by December 6 to help us curate our 2025 cohort.
